Services Provided by the University Police

  • Personal Safety Escorts of students, faculty and staff on campus

  • Emergency Locator Service:The University Police Department operates a full-time emergency locator service. Should an emergency arise which requires that a student be located, a University Police Officer will attempt to contact the student at the local address or, on-campus if the student is in class, to deliver the message. It is imperative that students keep the university informed of any change in their local addresses. If the address is other than a street address (such as a post office box) give directions to your residence.

  • Property Registration Service:The University Police Department Property Registration Service is operated free of charge for all campus citizens. Valuable items such as radios, watches, stereo equipment, bicycles, or calculators will be etched with an identifying number and recorded in property registration files. A decal will then be placed on the item warning would-be thieves that the item can be traced. Campus citizens may use this service by bringing items to the police department, located in the H.I.S. Building; or, in the case of big items or several items in one location such as a fraternity, residence hall, or other living area, by contacting the department and making arrangements for the service to be performed on location.

  • Lost and Found Service:The University Police Department operates a "lost and found" service for the convenience of the campus citizen. Articles found in campus facilities should be turned over to the University Police for return to the rightful owner. Students who lose items on campus should report the loss to the University Police immediately.

Crime Prevention Programs and Safety Seminars Presented to Any Group:The University Police Department offers to students, faculty, and staff crime prevention programs that are useful in the protection of property and contribute to the physical well-being of the campus community.

The programs relate to aspects of crime prevention and personal safety and are arranged at the convenience of the persons interested in the information. The programs are designed to serve as a deterrent to criminal activity.
